St. Paul City Hall and Ramsey County Court House at 15 West Kellogg Boulevard. The Art Deco structure was commissioned in 1928 with a 4 million dollar budget. When the stock market crashed a year later, the cost of goods and services decreased allowing for extensive use of domestic and foreign woods (26 varieties) and marble (20 kinds). Both American Perpendicular and ZigZag Moderne Art Deco is demonstrated in the building featuring strong repetitive lines, details in groups of three, indirect lighting, and contrasts of light and dark colors. Renovation of the building in the early 1990's to increase efficiency while maintaining its historic appearance cost 48 million dollars.
