The front of the Capitol Building in St. Paul, Minnesota. Cass Gilbert, the architect, designed every detail of the building to proclaim the importance of our seat of government to the fledgling state of Minnesota and to give a sense of permanence to our proud state. Mr. Gilbert's career was launched with Minnesota's Capitol building. He went on to design and supervise construction of two other state capitols as well as the famous Woolworth building in New York City. Although the advent of the modern era in the 1950's put Gilbert's work out of vogue, the attention to detail is much appreciated today by those who visit this beautiful structure.
