Have you ever wondered what you would ask for if you wished upon a star? or had a genie in a lamp? or got the big end of the wishbone? or won the lottery? A week ago, Larry Cragun of Real Estate Undressed asked me if I would send a description of my dream house for his Fantasy Friday series. If I wished upon a star . . . It seemed like a really fun idea so this is what I sent for Larry's Fantasy Fridays:
"Playing is the operative word, so here goes:
My fantasy house would be on an island off the Oregon coast where I could enjoy the rare placid calmness of the sea counter pointed by the angry storms. I would prefer a sheltered beach on one side where a boat (Well, bigger than boat, but I'm not sure what size!) could be docked and swimming or snorkeling could happen. This "home base" house must be old with lots of character. I prefer Victorian but would settle for a Craftsman style as well. It must have a porch so I can sit and enjoy the rain without getting wet! But the porch must be open. It cannot have windows! The house must have lots of original wood and color inside, deep vibrant purples and reds mixed with warm sunny greens, yellows and gold. No blues. The blue is from the ocean. It must also have trees, walking paths and places for flower gardens.
The uniqueness of my house, however, has nothing to do with its location. This house must be equipped with a transporter which will allow me to travel throughout the world staying in different locations for several months at a time so as to learn the culture and really experience the locale, to get to know the people. My stopping points will include remote areas of Africa, South America, Alaska, Australia, Canada, Europe, India, the former Russian states, small islands, and parts between. The transporter will have an automatic blocking device that prevents stops in tourist traps.
Home will be where I return to restore, reflect, and rejuvenate. . . and maybe to write."
