The city assessor's visit gave me some insight on property taxes. Several times he mentioned that our repair of the walls, replacement of the trim, replacement of windows and the roof were not considered "improvements" from a tax perspective. Improvements would be adding a bathroom, finishing an addition, or finishing the basement or attic. So, increasing the condition of our home from poor to good, may increase the value somewhat but evidently not as much as adding an improvement. Interesting. Do any others out there know if this impression is correct or not? If you do, use the comment box to give us your information! |
