Fall in Minnesota is the time for finishing yard work, planting tulips, enjoying the beautiful leaf colors, and generally preparing for our winter cocooning. Our next season will prepare us for the holidays and family gatherings. Often handymen bemoan the fact that customers want their projects completed before Christmas and then January and February drag on in dreariness. For those who plan ahead, Benjamin Moore is having a promotion that offers a $25 gift certificate to Pottery Barn if you purchase at least 4 gallons of Benjamin Moore Regal paint. If this is your kind of promotion, check it out today!
Thanks Bonnie good idea. And easy to acommplish!

I'm not an expert but a painter once told me you can paint anything if you prepare it right and use the right paint . . . even vinyl siding! Yuck! Anyway, my first step would be to take a drawer front or door of the cabinets I want to paint to my Sherwin Williams store and ask them the process. My guess? One of two things, scuff the finish with sandpaper or a chemical bonding agent and make sure you get a paint that will adhere to the laminate surface. But check with the pros as they really do know. Don't ask the youngest guy in a hardware or big box store, though. The answer could be a disaster!

Speaking of painting, I need help. I have ugly kitchen cabinets except for one full wall 1924 pine cabinet that is awesome. I want to take the ugly cabinets out but can't afford to do so yet. They are the cheap (excuse me, inexpensive) laminates you can get at any home store. The only paint I can find that matches the pine stain and my woodwork stain fairly well is an exterior Sherwin Williams paint. Am I crazy to try to tdo this on cabinet facings? I imagine I should sand them first. Any tips from the famous rehabber, i.e., Ms. Erickson!

I'm with you, Teresa. Paint is such a cheap fix and yet completely changes the way a house looks. I can't wait until my house has siding that can be painted!

Thanks, Larry. I'm back and doing well. Every so often even professionals have to take time out for life.

We just got done painting the posts on our new front porch. I love what a fresh coat of paint does for curb appeal. I have my eye on the living room as my next indoor painting project. So I think I will take advantage of that special. Cans of paint motivate me!
