Voting for politicians is important. Recently the impact on my personal life as a result of representatives in the State Capitol and on the national level has become more apparent. There's always been a naiveté in my life that professional politicians only dealt with important things like budget, war, crime, etc.
What a shock to hear in the St. Paul street engineer's traffic report at our block club meeting that the speed limit on one of our neighborhood streets cannot be reduced because the STATE legislature regulates the speed limit on St. Paul city streets! Note the governing body is not the City Council but the STATE legislature!!! Now I don't know about you, but if I lived in a remote area of the state and our township wanted to change the speed limit on the town's streets, I'd want the township to have control over that decision. I know I was flummoxed to know that representatives from New Hope, Windom, Mankato, Duluth, etc., all have a vote on whether St. Paul city streets can have a speed limit change! Go figure! It seems they should have more important things to consider!
