It seems all professions have their hazards. Steel workers fall off of high buildings. Bank tellers get robbed. Policemen are hit by cars. Even little kids are run over by school buses.
The stereotype of the REALTOR® profession doesn't include dangerous hazards though. Many people (Well, I did before becoming a real estate agent!) associate real estate agents with nice cars, diamonds, manicured nails, and suits. Flash and glitz fits the image I had of real estate agents BEFORE I became an agent myself!
As an agent, never had I considered the dangers of meeting strangers to show houses. Never had I considered assault as an occupational hazard. Never had it occurred to me that sitting in an open house alone could be hazardous to my health! Recently, though, more and more stories of REALTORS® being attacked by predators posing as prospective buyers are being reported. The latest story of a murdered agent from REALTOR® Magazine Online once again brings the risk of being a real estate agent to the public.
Yes, Teresa, you and I know full well the dangers of real estate, but for some reason that aspect of the business along with so much else, is left out of the reality TV shows!

Being a Realtor is not a safe occupation. You know I could write a lot on this topic. Great post
