That little blue speck is St. Paul where I live and work. The gray field is Minnesota, the state I call home. Minnesota is part of the United States of America. The USA is a small part of the international world we call earth.
Before blogging, people I called friends and colleagues were met in that little blue speck or in the slightly larger area of the Twin Cities and suburbs. Friends who lived in other places were met locally first and then moved to other states or around the world. Since blogging, I count among my friends people from all across the country whom I would never have met before. These people have become friends and colleagues because of the ethics and professionalism combined with splendid personalities that has been demonstrated in their blogs. First exposure was reading their blogs and then personal contact occurred through e-mail. Most of us have never met face to face.
Marc Davison in Inman News on July 5, 2007, talks about the impact of technology on the individual. He says, "Global is the new local. Small is the new big." Whether you are IMing, twittering, iPhoning, using any of the multiple social networks, working with virtual teams, or still relying just on e-mail, our world has expanded well beyond the borders of our city, country, and continent. Blogging has exposed me to people from Australia, China, Nigeria, and others. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone and into the blogosphere. It stretched my boundaries and has given me contact with a wonderful group of people that most likely would have remained strangers before technology hit my household!
Thank you, Linda. We're going to start a mutual admiration society here!

My Connecticut speck is smaller than yours! P.S Meeting you is one of the highlights of my blogging career.

Carole, You are one of the people I would not have met in my "former life". It's fun to consider how many colleagues and friends my new expanded self has acquired! I, too, count you as friend.

I've moved frequently in my life: Boston, St. Louis, Maryland. What I love about our new technologies is the ability to stay in touch with people...I count you among my global blessings.
